Vintage Maps As Wall Art

Some lovely Swedish nursery inspiration for you this morning. I’m loving the vintage map of Antarktis, Antarctica! I also LOVE the black cross garland that floats over the bed.
Vintage maps are one of the latest trends in nursery decor. Anyone planning on hanging one in their little one’s bedroom?

A few ideas…

Paint the nursery red! From Here Comes Baby
Red Nursery Idea from Colora Belgium
With Christmas coming closer we found this red nursery inspirational photo from a Belgium paint company called Colora. I love the creature on the wall although I am not sure if it is a aardvark or reindeer, who knows! The painted white dots break up the bright red colour and match with the bright white nursery furniture. The idea to hang the sleep sack on the wall when not in use is a nice touch as well as a few red accessories and toys to tie it together.

Baby No. 2 Nursery Ideas
Hi all! Lauren here again from A Lovely Lark! We’re currently pregnant with baby number two, and I’ve gotten a lot of questions about if we are a) finding out the gender of baby number two and b) if we will be changing the nursery decor. Yes, we are definitely finding out if this little bean is a guy or gal (December 6th is our ultrasound date!) I think we may have the ultrasound technician write down the gender on a card like we did the last time with Violet and open it at a later date. There’s just something about that moment that I want to be personal, and I don’t want to share it with a stranger. We may even have a very small gender reveal party with family afterward. Since we won’t be having a shower this time around I thought it could be a fun way to celebrate together
As far as the nursery I would like to change the decor a bit but keep the main pieces (crib, dresser, etc.). The only piece of furniture I’d be thrilled to change out is the glider, but I doubt that will happen because we are pinching our pennies so that I can stay home for a while with the baby and Violet. If the babe is a girl I’m really loving the items above. (If you’d like sources, you can check them out here) I thought it was kind of funny that after putting the idea board together I realized the color scheme is very similar to the current nursery. Of course we won’t be able to afford many of the above items but in a dream world this is a favorite look of mine. I’m still thinking on the boy thing – that’s so different for me I don’t have a vision in my mind of what it might look like yet. Stay tuned! xo, Lauren

Good morning! It finally feels like fall here in southern NJ & it is so refreshing.
Last night I put together this nursery mood board inspired by the pastels in one of my new paintings. This is definitely a modern girl’s room, but there is no shortage of color. I think one of my favorite finds for the room is the solid mint crib sheet. I just love the look of a solid colored crib sheet in a modern crib. (no bumper or crib skirt needed.) Just a pretty blanky hand made by Grandma!
P.S. Most of the items in this room are pretty budget friendly. The only really expensive piece is the crib. The GULLIVER Crib in Birch would be my budget friendly alternative.
the CANVAS on my bulletin board

I started this new series last week called “the print on my bulletin board.” I’ve been wanting to highlight art & prints for the nursery and my $2.00 bulletin board makeover finally inspired me to do so!
Since then, I’ve received some really cute prints & ART in the mail. Today I am sharing this FABULOUS Wally the Whale wrapped canvas print. It is from Boomboomprints.com, a really cool shop to order custom art for your child’s room. You can order prints as well as wrapped canvas art. They will even frame your print for you! You just pick the size and COLORS to match your nursery.
Have a relaxing weekend. My hubby comes home from the hospital tomorrow. We are soooo excited! xo, shari

Quintessentially English Nursery Ideas to Inspire from Here Comes Baby
After Makeover
Nursery ideas and craftiness are a plenty on Cherry Menlove’s blog. Cherry is a ‘modern English homemaker’ and her blog is a joy to read about her life with her family including twins Ned & Anais. Her craft ideas are simply gorgeous and she creates a quintessentially English nursery décor. I have selected three ideas to inspire you today – I hope you enjoy!
Quintessentially English Nursery Ideas: Boring Brown Trunk Makeover
Cherry takes a vintage trunk and transforms it from dusty brown storage to light, chic and worthy to be in the nursery storage. Read how Cherry transformed the trunk.
the PRINT on my bulletin board

I finished putting the “nailhead trim” on my bulletin board last night. I ran out of white push pins last week and was waiting for more to arrive from Amazon. You can see my $2.00 bulletin board makeover here.
Now that it is complete I will be using my bulletin board to show off art/prints from online/Etsy sellers. The print you see today is called A LITTLE LOVE. This print will be framed and hung in Harper’s new room. It is a darling print and I love it for a little girl’s room. To purchase visit Hitch Print Shop.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend. Lots of football and comfort food for me! -shari

Favorite Nursery Quote?
1., 2., 3., 4., 5., 6., 7., 8., 9.
Do you have a favorite print in your baby’s nursery? I’ve seen so many cute quotes on Etsy lately. I love the fonts in #2 & #8. For a glam, girly nursery #5 is by far my fave! Which is your favorite? Pretty picture frames make all the difference, & right now I am totally loving the gold frame on #5.
Where did you purchase your nursery artwork? From an Etsy store, online store, or did you make something yourself? Here are 2 of the prints that I am hanging in Harper’s bedroom:

Another one that is on it’s way is called “a little thing called love.” I’m still trying to decide what color frame to buy for it. What do you think? Gold, Black, White? I think any of these colors would work.

P.S. I’m starting a new blog feature called “The Print On My Bulletin Board.” If you are a designer/store owner & are interested in having one of your prints featured, email me @ Spearmintbaby@gmail.com for more info.
Nursery Color Palettes Inspired By Art Work
I am a huge sucker for Etsy. Obsessed, addicted and all of the above. I just like to browse the oh-so-pretty site. It’s beyond inspiring. And well, last week I realize how inspiring it really can be when I was browsing art work for my nursery in progress. So many of the beautiful prints can really help you create the perfect focal point and color palette for your nursery. Don’t believe me? Check out a few of my favorite pieces of art I found for the gallery wall or just to hang over the bed and see just how the colors come alive. Just add art.

DIY Fabric Wrapped Letter for Nursery
I’ve been wanting a cute letter object for a nursery for a while, something like this shop has. But these are quite expensive. So I was thrilled when I came across this tutorial of the yarn wrapped letter.
Basically, you use a cardboard to create a base shape, and wrap the yarn around to hide the cardboard. I used fabric scraps instead since I figured it would take less time, and I have a lot of fabric scraps from making clothes for my shop. Plus, I wouldn’t have a patience of wrapping the yard around for a million times!

Hippo And Giraffe Explorer Canvas Art

One of my FAVORITE things from Pottery Barn Kids…
I wanted to share because they are marked down to $59.99 each (from $129) The animals are hand painted, silk-screened, & hang on a wooden dowels. So schoolroom-like. & what a fun piece for your nursery! Hippo And Giraffe Explorer Canvas Art
Inspired by Print
Finish alphabet poster, IKEA 365+ BRASA pendant lamp, SQUARE CUTOUT 6-DRAWER DRESSER, crochet bunny, Watermelon velvet quilt cover, black/white polka dot pillow, blue spot pillowcase, Sundvik Bed, gold figurines
Wednesday…but does it feel like Friday to anyone else? I just finished up my bagel and cream cheese, not toasted. While browsing Big Cartel stores this morning I found this fabulous alphabet print by RK Design.
So, I thought I’d change up my weekly Inspired by Wallpaper post this week. Isn’t this print the the perfect inspiration for a modern, colorful toddler room?
The colors that stood out to me most were the oranges and blues. The crochet bunny & velvety quilt cover are splurges. To offset the cost, I included one of my FAVORITE pendant lamps from IKEA. (a serious bargain.) I also LOVE the SUNDVIK bed. The grey/brown color makes it look much more expensive than it’s $124 price tag!
Did you decorate your nursery/toddler room around a print or artwork?
Washi Tape Mural

I was totally inspired by the washi tape house in Monday’s post. So, I decided to do some googling to see if anyone else had tried this. WOW, check out what Nina Invorm created in her daughter’s room! ALL out of washi tape. She gives some great tips about how you can create something special in your little one’s room.

p.s. check out these washi tape vases!
Petit Collage

Some darling decor inspiration this Monday morning by Petit Collage at Fawn & Forest. I love those confetti fabric wall decals!
In the 2nd room it looks like they used Washi tape to make the house outline. So clever!
Black & White Prints

If you are looking for some black & white art for your nursery, check out Little Studio. My favorite is the perfectly imperfect APPLE! So cute and wholesome for the wall.
P.S. There has been research done that suggests that newborn babies can be calmed by black and white images, patterns, and shapes!
P.P.S a black and white book recommendation

There is a BIG sale at Anthropologie & this amazing wallpaper is on sale. I always thought it would be darling on an accent wall in the nursery…possibly behind the crib? Anyone else planning on putting wallpaper in the nursery?
DIY Silhouette

Lauren made this A-M-A-Z-I-N-G silhouette of her daughter (it literally LOOKS just like her!) I love the vibrant yellow watercolor paint she used. She teaches you how you can make your own in 10 easy steps. BRILLIANT, Lauren! Visit Withtwocats.com
Modern Art for the Nursery

Decorating a modern nursery? Have you checked out ART.com? You can search by color to find a piece that fits your space just right. & what I really love most is that you can pick out matting and the perfect frame for you piece. Nothing to do but hang on the wall once it arrives. How easy!
Modern Wall Letters

Edies Lab sells all kinds of wood letters in cool modern fonts. These OVERSIZED ones are my favorite. Maybe the perfect statement for your modern or vintage nursery?

P.S. you can custom order them in your preferred color!

Nursery Art

Adriane Duckworth has created this fabulous collection of animals for the nursery. How cute would it be to have the entire collection framed on baby’s wall?
Or, if you could choose only one, which one would it be? I’d pick the bunny or the whale. (there are more animals on her website)…

BTW, she also paints super gorgeous abstract pieces. I’d love to hang one in a large gold frame in my living room. My favorites are this one & this one.
NOTE: just found out that she also has an Etsy Store, YAY!
Watercolors in the Nursery

Good morning! This Monday is a really special one. It is the first time that my kids will get to see their dad since his accident in December. Before I head out for the day, I want to share with you some beautiful watercolor art I discovered over the weekend.
…I’m so drawn to watercolors lately- so soft, pretty, and refreshing. Andrea Shear’s sweet animals & hearts would be perfect for the nursery. My favorite piece is called Fox On The Line 01.
Idea Board: Big Girl Room
So Violet’s play room is slowly transforming to become her big girl room. No – I’m not pregnant, but we do want to have another baby eventually and I don’t want her to be making too many transitions at once. I’m hoping that as soon as she is ready to be out of her crib the room will be ready for her. (We’ll see how that goes when the time comes – could be a disaster, but in my mind it sounds like a good plan!)
I’ve slowly been making purchases for her room and my ideas have evolved a bit since we first started the project. Here’s the current plan:
So far I’ve purchased everything except for the curtains (which I may buy white curtains and DIY) and heart print (which unfortunately is no longer available, but I can always DIY it.) I am also creating my own larger version of a black botanical chart using an old map (wish me luck on that one!) and obviously have a slightly different dollhouse. I’m still looking for a mirror and the perfect vintage dresser on Craigslist. I’m thinking a coral color paint but it could end up natural wood as well – we’ll see!
If you remember my original plan you can see that this one involves a lot more black – I’m so in love with black lately! I feel like it just adds a touch of sophistication to an otherwise very girly space. Here are the sources:
Clockwise from top left: ribbon-edge drapes, terrarium prints, doily pillow, love pillow, rug, round flower pillow, botanical chart, bedding, bear doll, dollhouse, bear hook, squirrel lamp, heart print
So excited to pull it all together!
For New Mamas & Babies: Christmas Gift Guide
Clockwise from top left: Pom Blankets, Organic Striped Booties, Eat Sleep Poop, Orfeo Bloom Rattle, IGLU Wooden Play Gym, Striped Bodysuit, lifefactory Bottles, Knit Rattle, Knit Pom Booties, Wooden Crochet Teether, Birth Print, Gizmine Humidifier, Donna Wilson Plush, Sakura Bloom Sling
Nursery Idea Board: Follow the Arrow
clockwise from top left: leather triangle mobile, DIY cloud roller shade, chevron crib sheets, industrial arrows, bear print, crib, pouf, lamp, rug, chair, dresser
Wouldn’t this be such a fun room for a little guy? The to-die-for leather mobile was the inspiration for the board. If I had a little boy, triangles + arrows would be on my list for sure!
P.S. I’d really appreciate a comment (aka vote) on my ideabook for Houzz.com – thank so much!!!

Ten Creative Ways to Display Children’s Art
I am so ridiculously excited for the day when Violet starts to create some artwork of her own. I absolutely love children’s art and think it is important to display it in a beautiful way your home. Not only does it show your children that their creations are valuable to you, it is also very beautiful and can really add life to any space. (Case in point):
Here are a few of my favorite ways in which to display your little one’s masterpieces:
2. Metal clips:
3. Cable system:
4.Using larger, permanent frames, but clipping or taping in the art allows you to rotate it more easily:
5. Grid collage:
There are a few different ways to do this. The first is to have someone else do it for you, but this can be very pricey.

If you have a little computer-savvy and a bit of time, you can create the same effect yourself for less:
And if you don’t get along with computers, here is a more hands-on technique:
And if that looks intimidating, a smaller, more friendly version:
6. Magnets! You can use trays like this project, or most anything made of metal:
Or, of course, there’s magnetic paint. Layer it beneath chalkboard paint or just your regular old wall color for a cleaner look.
7. Clipboards:
8. Make it into a book. Again, this is something that you could pay someone else to do, or DIY:
9. Clothespins. Go crazy with some chicken wire, or keep it simple with a bit of string:
10. Wall decals. Another, more whimsical way to have the look of a permanent frame wall but with the ability to rotate the art:
Do you have any creative ways for displaying children’s art? I’d love to hear about them!

Alright all of you lovers of traditional spaces – here’s one just for you! You’ve seen both a modern space and vintage-inspired space based on this group of prints from COSAS MINIMAS by Blanca Gomez on Etsy:

One Print, Three Rooms Part II
On Monday I kicked off my second One Print, Three Rooms series with a very modern space inspired by this group of colorful prints from COSAS MINIMAS by Blanca Gomez on Etsy:
For the second space in the series I went for a more vintage vibe. The orangey-red pouf has made a second appearance, but warmer, earthier tones are replacing the graphic black and whites of the previous room.
