Our trip to LEGOLAND® California!…
YAY, I’m finally getting this post up after our fabulous visit to the 128-acre theme park on May 21st. We were so lucky to get to visit on opening day of the newest attraction at LEGOLAND® California, Heartlake City. Since Rexy’s Birthday was on May 6th, and it was his DREAM to visit the park, we decided to keep the trip a SURPRISE for the kids. This was so hard to do but so worth it to see their smiling/shocked faces that day!
We drove out to Carlsbad, California from our home in Scottsdale, AZ. It was a fun 6 hour road trip… the kids watched The LEGO® Movie on the way to the there. When we arrived to Carlsbad we were soooo pleasantly surprised. The town is just lovely, right on the sea, about 30 miles north of downtown San Diego and one hour south of Anaheim.
The next morning we arrived at LEGOLAND® California at 10:00 a.m., parked our car and headed into the park. There were no lines and from that point on it was the kids who did all of the navigating for the day!
One of the first things that Rex wanted to do was drive a lego car. So we headed over to Volvo Driving School. There are 2 different driving courses: 1 for children ages 3 through 5 and another for children ages 6 through 13 (Harper tried that one!) The kids LOVED driving their own cars and earning their official LEGOLAND drivers licenses (which they wore around their necks the entire day!)
Early in the morning we also visited LEGOLAND’S brand new attraction, Heartlake City. Harper was in HEAVEN! Each of the 5 Heartlake City LEGO® Friends Models is made out of 30,000 LEGO bricks. They are absolutely gorgeous and Harper had to have a picture with each of them! The kids rode the beautiful new carousel and we caught a live showing at The Friends Forever Stage that Harper just LOVED!
We took a break for lunch early in the afternoon at the Fun Town Market Restaurant. The market-style restaurant had something for everyone… pasta, salad bar, steak sandwiches, etc. We were all happy with our delicious meals, but like any amusement park, food is very expensive. I would suggest bringing a small cooler for extra water bottles, juice boxes, fruit, goldfish crackers, etc. That way you can cut down on the food expense at the park.
The rest of the afternoon we visited Dino Island, Explore Village, & Imagination Zone. On the day we visited LEGOLAND, the park unfortunately closed at 5:00 pm. There were several areas of the park which we did not have time to visit. I would highly recommend purchasing a 2 day ticket to the park. We also did not see the aquarium or the water park. Hopefully next time!
One of the areas of the park that the kids really enjoyed was Imagination Zone. They loved building their own LEGO cars which they got to race against other kids on the lego track. It was nice for my husband & I to just sit on a bench and watch while they really had some fun! We probably could have stayed in this area of the park for another hour had there been more time in the day.
Another fabulous thing about the park is all of the LEGO play areas. Ride lines at the park the day we were there were fairly short and quick. But for days when the lines get long, each ride has a lego play area in the center of the line so while parents wait in line, they can watch their kids can create/play. It is a life savor!
A bit of history about the park:
LEGOLAND California is the first theme park in the United States created by Danish toy maker, the LEGO® Company. LEGOLAND offers more than 60 interactive rides, shows and attractions, as well as restaurants, shopping and beautiful landscape features specifically geared for families with children ages 2 to 12. There are more than 30,000 LEGO® models in the Park created from more than 62 million LEGO bricks. Models range from a Brontosaurus named Bronte (made of more than 2 million LEGO bricks) to a tiny rabbit in a magician’s hat in Miniland Las Vegas made of just four bricks. Here are just a few of my favorite lego models:
We all REALLY enjoyed our trip to LEGOLAND® California and hope to return next year. I’d love to go during the summer as well when it is warm enough for the water park- it looks absolutely fantastic!
Rexy starts Kindergarten this fall and other than a LOT of trips to the library this summer we are trying to think of ways to help him with his spelling/reading/writing…
This game has been quite useful. I saw the idea on Pinterest a few times, and I found a $2.99 Scrabble game at Goodwill so I thought I’d try it. He LOVES it. Not only does he love searching for the letters, but the words are sticking. His spelling began to improve after just 2 times playing this game.
If you google “Kindergarten Sight Words” you’ll find some great lists of 2 to 3 letter words to start with. I think you could probably even start this game with 3-4 year olds for a head start.
Caring for your new baby is as overwhelming as it is joyous. I remember the day I brought Harper home from the hospital. I was kind of in shock. Overnight I went from taking care of my pregnant body to being completely in charge of this tiny new baby. She was all mine!
Finding products that I could trust to help me with my new job as a Mother definitely gave me some peace of mind. Mustela is one brand I discovered early on. Mustela was recommended to me by a lot of my mom friends. It was also recommended online by healthcare professionals to provide safe and effective skincare for both mom and baby. I loved that both my mom friends and health care professionals agreed on Mustela.
Mustela has been caring for the skin of babies and mothers-to-be since 1950. Today, Mustela features around 50 products. Innovative, safe, effective and increasingly natural, Mustela’s products protect babies’ skin – as well as the skin of new moms – now and for the future.
When talking about safe skincare, it is important to look at what is in the formula. Mustela’s formula is in perfect harmony with skin. All Mustela products are hypoallergenic: this means they do not contain any irritants and are specially formulated to minimize the risk of allergic reactions. Medical tests carried out by specialist independent laboratories are used to confirm the products’ tolerance. Mustela tries to use ingredients that are natural or of natural origin.
With summer around the corner Mustela has everything you need to protect baby from those rays. One must have for your purse/diaper bag is Mustela’s Broad Spectrum Mineral Sunscreen Lotion. The SPF 50+ sunscreen lotion can be applied to the face and body of babies and children. Their lotion is formulated with naturally derived sunscreen filters: Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, which are safest for babies. It is also Paraben-free, phthalate-free, phenoxyethanol-free, fragrance-free, PABA-free and hypoallergenic. My kids love how refreshing it feels and it does not stink or sting!
Mustela’s facial Cleansing Cloths are also a must for us. They sooth and moisturize, are completely safe to use around the eye area, and cleanse without stripping the natural oils of the skin.
To purchase Mustela products visit Diapers.com. Buy 2, Save 25% off Mustela maternity products through 5/10/15. Use Promo code: BUY2MOM.
In addition, Mustela wants to celebrate Mother’s Day by hearing from real moms like you! Head on over to their Facebook page to enter into their Mustela Moms Know Best contest to win a bundle of products (over a $100 value!). There are two winners every day, so be sure to enter into the contest daily with your tips, tricks and advice!

Hi there, Irene from designstiles today.
We recently enrolled our son in swim lessons in which he goes to once a week. I thought one pair of swim trunks would suffice, but on weeks when his laundry doesn’t get done or simply to change things up a bit, I went out and purchased more swimwear for him. Plus it’s just fun dressing kids.
Seeing that summer will be here before we know it, below are some cute swim pieces for boys and girls.
Now that my taxes are finished, I’m finally catching up with some blogging. I wanted to share some photos of our beautiful Easter Sunday at the stunning Sanctuary on Camelback Resort & Spa.
We all woke up early Easter morning to put on our Sunday best. Harper & Rexy both wore new pieces from the Feather Drum SS ’15 Collection. The Sanctuary is only about 5 minutes from our house so we grabbed the kids’ Easter baskets & headed out for our short ride.
The grounds of the Sanctuary on Camelback Resort are absolutely gorgeous. The resort is built on the side of Camelback Mountain which makes for spectacular views! The Easter Egg hunt began around 9:15 & did not disappoint! There were hundreds of eggs hidden in every nook and cranny you can imagine. All of the children were very friendly. It was so nice to see such kind & well behaved kids. Some of the older children offered eggs to babies & toddlers. It was a great dynamic! There were 6 “golden eggs” hidden that morning. If you found one of them, you “cashed it in” for a large prize. Neither Rex nor Harper found one, but a few of the kids that did find them shared their big prizes. Harper and Rex were ecstatic! They came home with huge chocolate bunnies & egg-laying chicken toys. The funny Easter Bunny was also at the resort all morning to take photos and offer extra treats for the children.
After the hunt was over it was time for Easter Brunch. We had reservations at the award-winning restaurant, Elements…
With its cutting-edge kitchen, this critically acclaimed Scottsdale restaurant offers a diverse menu including vegetarian and gluten-free options…innovations like in-house smoked meats and a raw bar for iced shellfish and sashimi…plus the best local, organic produce, sustainable seafood, and hormone-free meats, making it a favorite restaurant in Scottsdale.
Food Network star, Executive Chef Beau MacMillan creates specialties that live up to the dramatic setting of elements, a top rated Scottsdale restaurant. Watching the colorful sunset on Camelback Mountain while dining at elements is one of the most enjoyable pleasures at Sanctuary. With a menu as inspiring as the stunning location, elements features farm-fresh American cuisine with Asian accents, providing an upscale Scottsdale fine-dining experience.
There was a special Easter Brunch Menu that morning that was just divine. I had the Baked Oysters Dynamite, Lobster Benedict, & Strawberry Shortcake. It was the most delicious brunch I had had in years. Maybe even ever!
If you live in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area, or are headed this way be sure to stop by Sanctuary on Camelback Resort & Spa for your special occasion. We’re hoping to catch one of their Sunday Happy Hours soon!
The days are long but the years are short
I came across that quote the other day and it’s stuck with me since. I feel like it’s resonated with me much more now because I’m a mom. The first four words seem to linger as I think about just how tired I am. All the time. Yet when my son came to lay his little head on my lap, it immediately reminded me of the newborn stage and how he wouldn’t sleep at night unless he rested on either mine or my husband’s chest. And you say to yourself, I can’t believe that was soandso long ago. It always feels like it was just yesterday.
During the first couple of months when your baby only seems to eat and sleep you long for the days when they’re more responsive. But before you know it, you find yourself creating a Pinterest board for first birthday inspiration and you’re overcome with emotion at just how fast it’s gone.
The dichotomy of being exhausted and wanting your baby to take his midday nap so you can get to your endless to-do list, to just wanting time to stop so they stay little forever.
All we can do it try and capture and savor these special moments even when the day seems to drag on.
Live in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area & still have no plans for Easter? Come join us at the Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort & Spa…
The Sanctuary experience is full of unexpected surprises, from catching sight of a hummingbird while dining on elements’ deck to finding a transformative moment in the meditation garden of the Sanctuary Spa. This Easter Sunday, April 5, hidden treasures will be plentiful at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, thanks to its annual Egg Hunt and delectable Easter feast by Executive Chef Beau MacMillan.
The resort’s Sunset Lawn Garden will become an early morning playground for resort guests, with a hunt for hidden eggs and treats commencing at 8:30 a.m. Thereafter guests and locals are invited to a four course prix-fixe Easter Brunch at elements restaurant or an Easter Brunch Buffet in The Views Ballroom, both affording sweeping views of Paradise Valley and the resort’s namesake Camelback Mountain.
The prix-fixe Easter Brunch at elements, offered from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is $80 per person or $90 with sparkling wine ($25 for children ages 6-12), plus tax, gratuity and beverages. The menu (available in full here) includes an amuse of Maine Lobster Bisque with cognac and tarragon crème and a choice of beginnings like Foie Gras Sticky Bun with toasted pecans, tokaji jelly and black truffle, and Baked Oysters Dynamite with bloomside spinach, Dungeness crab, Chinese sausage and sesame sauce. Entrée choices include BBQ Shrimp n’ Grits with Anson
Mills cheddar grits, fried egg, chorizo broth and tomato jam, Korean Fried Chicken with bacon waffle, banh mi pickles, and red dragon sauce, and Lobster Benedict with poached eggs, shaved ham, toasted English muffin, and lobster hollandaise, among other options. Desserts choices are equally decadent, including Strawberry Shortcake and Liquid Center Chocolate Torte.
Easter Brunch Buffet in The Views, offered 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., is $65 per person ($20 for children ages 6-12) plus tax, gratuity and beverages. The buffet menu (available in full here) features glorious spreads including artisanal bread, cheese and dessert displays, an omelet station, a carving board with Roasted Easter Ham with pineapple sticky glaze and fresh biscuits as well as Mustard Herb Crusted Leg of Lamb with rosemary and garlic jus. These are complemented by scrumptious plates including Orecchiette Pasta with Lobster, Shrimp and Crab, Cognac Bananas Foster French Toast with chantilly crème and rum caramel, and Pan Seared Salmon with organic spinach, capers and lemon, among others.
Reservations are required for both Easter events. Please call 480-948-2100.

A new year means a fresh start! Don’t you love that? How do you plan on looking and feeling your best in the New Year? I’m hoping to ramp up my exercise routine, bikini weather comes quickly in Arizona! I’m also going to try to drink a LOT more water + eat more fruits & veggies. Sounds simple enough, right?
Last year I started eating banana smoothies for breakfast. I mix 2 bananas with a LOT of ice + protein powder, almond butter, & whatever other fresh fruit that I have. It is super easy, super fast + nutritious!
Putting a quick lunch together is a bit trickier. By lunchtime I am neck-deep into my work routine, and most days I don’t feel like cooking anything at all. Enter Progresso™ Light soup… they have delicious flavors and are light on calories. And let’s face it: there is nothing like a piping-hot bowl of soup on a cold winter day. Progresso™ Light soups are perfect as part of your well-balanced lunch. With my soup I like to have a piece of whole-grain toast and a fresh salad.
Progresso™ Light soups come in an 18.5-ounce can that is “ready to eat.” The can is easy to open with a pull tab, so you don’t even need a can opener. This is super handy for “on the go” activities. All Progresso™ Light soups are pre-cooked, not condensed. You can simple heat soup up in the microwave or on your stovetop.
Like variety in your diet? Progresso™ Light soup has 40 delicious flavors at 100 calories or less per serving. You can indulge in flavors like bacon, cheese, potatoes, alfredo, etc… with flavors like Progresso™ Light Creamy Potato with Bacon and Cheese and Light Creamy Chicken Alfredo. You can find a full list of Progresso™ Light soups here. I am a creature of habit, and my favorites include Light Chicken & Dumpling, Light Beef Pot Roast, and Light Savory Vegetable Barley.
Whether it’s zipping up your skinny jeans, feeling your best on your wedding day, or making over your wardrobe, Progresso™ Light soups can aid you in your goals of making healthy lifestyle changes to look and feel your best this new year! Happy 2015!

The kids & I decorated a little corner of their room last night… Happy Holidays
The holidays are fast approaching, which means life is going to get a little hectic! Are you ready? It is always such a busy time of year so best be organized! This year, thanks to Dell, I’ll be getting organized & navigating through the holidays with the brand new Venue 8 3000 Series Tablet. Whether I’m bookmarking, pinning, online shopping or party-planning, I’m certain that my Dell Venue 8 Tablet will minimize chaos & help me keep my head on straight!
One of my favorite things about the Dell Venue 8 Pro is that it is super thin and light, only 9 mm thin, so it fits easily into some of my smallest handbags and adds very little weight. I always have my Dell Tablet with me when I’m out and about. I love to use it for pinning holiday recipes while waiting for the kids to get out of school (I’m always way too early to the parking lot!) The Dell Venue 8 Pro has an 8″ HD (1280×800) display which is the perfect size. The screen is soooo clear and crisp, it has amazing resolution and brightness. Another thing I’ve noticed is that I can use it off and on all day long while barely draining the battery. The battery life can’t be beat!
If you like taking photos as much as I do, you will just love the Tablet’s camara. The Dell Venue 8 comes with a 1.2MP front camera and a 5MP back camera so you’ll get clear, crisp photos without the need to edit. If you do enjoy playing with photo filters, effects, collages, etc you will find so many fun & free photo apps in the Play Store. I’ve already uploaded several of my favorites. No need to worry about storage space, because Dell’s new tablet also has 32GB5 of on-board storage, more than ever before. So you’ll have plenty of room to store photos, videos, music, games, etc.
The Dell Venue 8 Pro comes with the latest Windows 8.1 operating system and a 1-year license for Microsoft Office 365 Personal. You’ll also get direct access to Xbox Music, videos, games and Skype to help you stay connected.
From bookmarking, Pinning, or using it while out and about shopping, the Venue 8 3000 Series Tablet will help you navigate the busy holidays. Get one for yourself and one for that special someone this holiday season.
With Dell technology, it’s easy to give the gifts that fuel their dreams no matter what they love to do: music lover, movie buff, fitness fanatic, avid gamer, fab foodie, and gadget lover. From the Dell Inspiron 5000 Series to the Dell Venue 8 tablet to the latest TVs and electronics, inspire their every passion. And with so many gift ideas in the Dell Holiday Lookbook, finding the perfect gift is a snap.

Yesterday around 11:00 am I saw a black dog wandering our yard. I went to go see her, but she immediately ran off. After trying to call her for about 20 minutes I gave up. I did notice that she had no collar on.
Fast forward to the evening… the kids were playing outside and Harper comes running inside screaming & crying. I had no idea what had happened so I ran outside to check on Rex. Then I see the black puppy is back! We spent 2 hours (with some of our neighbors) chasing her around the neighborhood.
The sweet pup eventually came into our house. She is so skinny and so sweet! She has no microchip, our neighbors have posted fliers but so far no one has claimed her.
Anyway, meet “Beyoncé!”
The Fall and Winter seasons are also known as the sick seasons for us moms, right? Now that my children are back in school it seems that someone always has the sniffles! Rex has had a cold with a constant runny nose for the past 2 weeks. You know, that kind of cold where your child’s face just looks raw and sore?
To get through the sick season we use Puffs SoftPack™. Puffs tissues have the soft touch that is so necessary for those sore, red noses. The extra softness makes all the difference on their delicate skin.
In addition to that gentle touch of a Puffs tissue, the Puffs SoftPack™ has a new flexible design that holds up better than an ordinary tissue box. It is both easily stored and water-resistant and also travels well! Throw a SoftPack™ into your car glove box, back seat car organizer, children’s backpacks, and your own gym or make-up bag.
Puffs SoftPack™ can also fit into the tight spaces of your home. The flexible design and water-resistant pack allows it to be tucked into the couch cushions, thrown in a nightstand, tucked into your medicine cabinet, and even stored right near the sink!
So, get through the changing seasons with Puffs SoftPack™! The NEW full size flexible package contains Puffs Basic tissues, dermatologist tested to be gentle and designed to fit perfectly into your life so you can always put your best face forward.”

Purchasing a portrait also includes 8 templates for gifts tags, cupcake toppers, party invitations and more.
They’re just so darling. Great keepsake and I’m sure any kid would loving putting their little face everywhere with their own personal labels.

As a mom, one of the most important jobs I have is to encourage my children to develop good health habits, from eating their fruits & vegetables to getting plenty exercise, & keeping their brains stimulated.
This summer has been even busier than we imagined. On Monday-Friday, we wake up around 7:00 am. The kids dress themselves while I set out a quick breakfast. They usually eat a whole grain waffle or breakfast bar, a hard boiled egg, and a banana or a bowl of strawberries (which is always a hit!) Then, I quickly pack their lunches which include some of their favorite processed foods, fruit (which they never eat at camp!) & some yogurt.
After a 3:30 pickup from camp we often have activities & sports to attend. By the time we get home from swim lessons, karate, the library, etc the kids are exhausted. Some days they are so tired they can barely eat a full dinner. I often wonder if they’ve consumed enough nutrient-rich foods.
Healthy eating plays an important role in optimal health, but did you know that less than one half of children consume the USDA recommended number of servings in any given food pyramid group, and almost 80% do not eat the recommended number of nutrient-rich fruits and vegetables.
Enter NatureSmart Gummy Vitamins. NatureSmart Vitamins can help “fill in” some of these nutritional gaps. The best thing about NatureSmart Vitamins is that even your pickiest eater will love them, they taste delicious! Plus your children will love Gummy Vitamins in Marvel Shapes and Gummy Vitamins in Disney Shapes.
Supplementing their diets with NatureSmart Vitamins gives me the peace of mind that they are getting essential vitamins and minerals for healthy growth and development!*

Summer is on it’s way out, gosh it seemed to fly by! Believe it or not we go back to school in Scottsdale on August 6th.
Back to School season is one of my favorites. This time of year makes me feel a bit nostalgic… anticipating the first day, finding your classroom, seeing friends after summer, and of course Back to School shopping!
With the help of GapKids Harper and I have put together some fresh & stylish looks for the fall season. What I love is that GapKids makes super versatile pieces that you can mix n’ match to create several outfits.
Do you like these looks as much as we do? Do you have a favorite? We’ve kept Harper’s fall looks carefree, casual, and definitely comfortable. Gap has done an amazing job with the fall collection that just let’s kids be kids.
Some of my favorites/must have pieces for girls include the 1969 boy fit jeans. They are so amazing that we purchased both the canvas color and the medium wash shade. Gap’s boy fit jeans have a slightly baggy fit and a rolled cuff that looks so fabulous on girls! I also LOVE the Convertible plaid hi-lo shirt and the Junior nylon backpack in Olive Moss.

Over the weekend I had a little dinner for 3 of my girlfriends…ALL expecting BOYS! I decided to have the dinner baby shower style. We had such a fabulous evening…
Have you heard about Sony Pictures new movie, Sex Tape? It’s a Revealing Comedy from the Director of Bad Teacher. Sex Tape stars Jason Segel and Cameron Diaz and is coming to theaters on July 18th.
The movie looks hysterical! After 10 years together and two kids later, Jay (Jason Segel) and Annie (Cameron Diaz) have found that their sex life has become nonexistent. In an attempt to try and put some spice back in their relationship they decide to make a sex tape. The private video of them trying out every position in The Joy of Sex in one marathon three-hour session suddenly is no longer private. The recording leaks and the couple goes on a hilarious adventure to get the tape back out of the Cloud network.
Can you relate at all? Remember the butterflies in your stomach when you first met your hubby? All you could think about was when you were you going to see him again. That feeling tends to fade after you have been with someone for a while, you get comfortable, have children and everyday life gets the best of you.
What do you do to reignite the romance with your hubby/significant other? Have your attempts ever gone all wrong?
I remember one Valentine’s Day where I went all out with candles, bubble bath, flowers, and even music. My husband came home from work and sat down to watch television for a minute. It had been a long, exhausting week and when I went to invite him into the bedroom/bathroom I found him fast asleep! Total fail.
And then there was this Autocorrect:
I think we can all relate to this movie. At one time or another the romance has just died. So, go check out the trailer above (if you haven’t already) and make a date with your significant other to go see Sex Tape!

P.S. Go to Facebook: TheSexTapeMovie to tell us your stories of romance gone wrong.

On Friday evening Ryan Cruz Saldana tragically lost his life. He was the beloved son of Jacqui & Dan: @babyboybakery & @danno12. Ryan was only 3.5 years old and was so dear to so many, including our Instagram community. Please send your thoughts, prayers, & memories to the family & friends of Ryan. Use hashtag: #REDBALLOONSFORRYAN
There are numerous ways you can help the family including a fundraising effort that is currently going on: gofundme.com/8xx8ao

We are back to school this week after almost a 1 week off! Luckily over the Thanksgiving break we were able to rest up and get rid of the colds and coughs! Even in Arizona we have a “sick season” and this year the kids have had the worst colds!
So, what do you do to prevent your kids from getting the dreaded winter cold? I make big bowls of fresh cut up fruits & veggies that they can nibble on while playing games and puzzles. My kids will never finish fruits & veggies during meals, but when I serve them up while at play Harper & Rex seem to gobble up carrot sticks, grapes, mango… all that good stuff!
Another recommendation…LOTS of fruit smoothies. If your children are not good fruit eaters, just stick it all in a blender. It is much easier and faster to consume a lot of fruit when you can drink it! I add a bit of greek yogurt, almond butter, and ice to my smoothies – so delicious!
Other tricks for keeping them healthy… we keep a consistent bedtime routine: 6:30 – 7:00 jammies, brushing teeth, and story time. They are tucked into their beds between 7:00 – 7:30. We also get LOTS of exercise. Arizona weather allows us to go to the park and play all winter long. We’ve also recently started Tuesday swimming lessons. And I hope to start basketball and baseball in the next few months.
On top of eating healthy, lots of sleep, and regular exercise, I supplement their diet with a L’il Critters™ gummy vitamin each morning. (Harper and Rex call them L’il Critters™ candies!) Yum Yum! If you are looking to supplement your children’s diets I highly recommend L’il Critters™:
L’il Critters™ are the #1 child gummy vitamin. We are the better tasting gummy vitamin that is preferred by Kids and trusted by Moms. “We Make Nutrition Taste Good.”

Until you have a baby, you really don’t realize just how much your body goes through. And as many stories as you may hear and as much as your friends may tell you, everyone is different and everyone’s experience varies. Thankfully, my experience was way less scary than I had imagined and although I can say I feel like I had a relatively easy experience, the maintenance you have to go through after labor was something I really had no clue about. From squirt bottles (given to me at the hospital) to belly wraps, there were quite a few items I’d never heard anyone mention. Below are some of the items that helped with the (vaginal) recovery process and helped ease the beginning stages of nursing, both of which occur simultaneously.
I think these would also make a thoughtful care package for any girlfriends.
1. soothies – stick these in the freezer first and they’ll provide a cooling relief for sore and cracked nipples.
2. maxi pads – feels like your period comes into full effect, so you’ll need these for at least a week after labor.
3. tucks – apply one pad onto your maxi and it helps relieve discomfort.
4. motrin – for cramps, especially when your first begin to nurse.
5. lanolin – ouch. Again, for sore and cracked nipples. I applied this after every breastfeed.
6. nursing cover – baby feeds every 2-3 hours and with the amount of guests you’ll have visiting, this covers you up if you’re modest. I sure am. I have this exact one but I also found this one that is super stylish.
7. nursing pads – I went through these like crazy in the beginning. I was leaking a lot and these help absorb leakage and keep your bras from getting dirty extra fast. These are washable but I used the disposable kind.
8. nursing bras and 9 – you’ll need a few. Comfort is key. I much prefer the kind with no underwire. You’ll also need a few. I thought I could get by on a couple. I had to send my husband out to purchase more.
10. nipple shields – I had cracked nipples and it hurt when it was time to pull back the bra for nursing so I tucked these into my bra to keep from that skin to bra contact.
11. belly bandit – I live in this! I still wear it. I want to feel that support and feel like my stomach and hips are shrinking back into place. If there is one thing you purchase off this list, this is my number one recommendation.
It’s so much to deal with all at once, and now that I went through childbirth and feel like I’m 90% back to myself again, I truly feel like a champ. And to anyone who is on their way to motherhood, best of luck and hope this little round up helps you.

Happy Early Thanksgiving! I hope you all get some rest while filling your bellies with lots of TURKEY over the 4 day weekend. Thanksgiving is my favorite FOOD holiday. There is nothing better than Thanksgiving leftovers and I love myself a cold turkey sandwich with mayo the day after the big feast!
I know a lot of you are entertaining family/big parties for the holiday. I’ve seen some AMAZING tablescapes on Instagram this week. Our Thanksgiving will be super simple. Just the 4 of us with a large TURKEY front and center. If I were to entertain, I’d use the cute Turkey Place Card Holders pictured above. & I’d probably dress the kids as Pilgrims or Turkeys. Hopefully next year we’ll have family in town and our celebration will be LARGE!

Do your kids lose things? I feel like there is always something that we are looking for…
Harper & Rex use these stainless steel water bottles at recess time. They are amazing but pricey ($14.00 from Target) and we’ve lost 3 of them! So many of the kids at school have the same ones & it is impossible to keep track of which bottle belongs to which child. I tried writing Harper & Rex’s names on the bottom with permanent marker, but turns out it is not so permanent!
So, enter Anywhere Labels from safetytat.com. BEST.DECISION.EVER! These labels are dishwasher, washing machine and microwave safe. You can get them in any color/pattern. We ordered a set with both Harper & Rex’s first and last names + our phone number on them (just in case.)
Another added bonus… you can also use these labels on toys, clothing and coat tags, school supplies, bags and totes, containers, water bottles, electronics, sports gear, and more! Not sure why I waited so long to try them.
I started working on Harper & Rex’s bedroom redo on Monday. (I am a month & a half late on this project but more motivated than ever to get it going!) So far we’ve torn out the carpet/pads and started painting. The carpet removal was supposed to be a quick job but I had no idea that it would take so long to get the carpet grippers out of the concrete. They were nailed into the concrete and I literally had to pry them out with a screw driver and hammer. IT WAS TOUGH to say the least. It seems that there are always surprises when you decide to DIY it!
Anyway, you can keep up with the bedroom redo updates on INSTAGRAM: spearmintbaby
Hey guys, so sorry for the lack of blogging this week. I am busy getting ready for the ABC Kids Expo next week in Vegas! Have a great week! Shari
I was mesmerized by this video, the way this sweet newborn enjoys her bath time. I wish I had taken the time to bathe my children in a similar manner….
Sonia Rochel is a French nurse who’s been working with newborns for 35 years. The bathing style Sonia developed, which she calls the Thalasso baby bath or baby spa, mimics the warmth and security of the womb, making the baby feel relaxed and at home.
Sonia gives 5 tips for bathing your newborn:
1. Don’t bathe a hungry baby. They can’t relax if they’re hungry.
2. Let your hands and heart express themselves.
3. Take your time. Ten to 15 minutes is good.
4. Water getting in your baby’s ears and eyes? It’s OK!
5. Enjoy the experience as much as your baby does.
