Closet turned NURSERY!

Since we’ve run out of bedrooms for this baby we decided to turn one of our master bedroom closets into a nursery! (this is temporary as we hope to move to a larger home in the next year) I’m not sure of the exact sq ft of this closet (maybe 7 x 5?)  There are no windows so I tried to add some bright colors. The wall color is SILVER CHARM by Behr.

I decided that since this is only a temporary nursery, I wanted to keep it really budget friendly. The only piece of furniture I purchased is the crib from IKEA.   I also bought the chandelier at IKEA ($29.99)  The orange bookcase was a DIY project, and the big black shelf is a garage storage shelf that i brought up from the basement!  I store clothing and accessories in the storage bins (Target) on the bottom shelves. The rocking chair (from Walmart) was in my daughter’s nursery (I don’t get much use from it in her room anymore, since she is getting too big to sit still!)  I decided not to purchace another changing table/diaper station since we have one in our laundry room.

The colorful polkadot blankets were made by me & the crochet blanket was made by my MOM.

3 new things…

for the nursery:
my new LOVE pillow

for me:
a necklace i have always wanted since becoming a mother! a simple “mother” pendant on a long chain. every mama should have one. i had this made special by Madison Reece Designs and i love it.

for the new baby:
100% muslin cotton receiving blankets by Koala Kuddles . these are the softest gauzy blankets and i wish they made them in grown up size. i cannot wait to wrap them around my new little bundle!

more work on the bookcase

we are having a blizzard in southern NJ, so i was forced to stay inside today and work on a few projects. i got the first coat of polyurethane finish on the bookcase. 1 more coat and some sanding and it will be finished. here it is in it’s drying spot:

i never took a “before” photo, but it was a cheap, old particle board bookcase like this one:

owl mobile hung!

here is a peak at the new owl mobile. my son will be rooming in our master bedroom closet! fortunately our house has 5 closets in the master so we have converted the large one into another nursery. we are currently house hunting for a home with more than 3 bedrooms…and hoping to move in the next year.

felt ball garland – my DIY project this weekend

i saw these adorable felt ball garlands on etsy (by seller Made Mary) and thought that they looked easy enough to make myself…

so here is my simple weekend project…
*buy some felt balls: (i bought these from ornamentea.com. they are the 2 cm spectrum. 50 for $10.50. there are different color combinations of balls so you are sure to find a combo to match your nursery.)

*buy some embroidery floss and a small needle, but big enough to thread all the strands of embroidery floss. (i used white):

simply string the balls on the floss using your needle. you don’t even need to put knots around them. you can slide them around later for spacing. they move easily on the floss but will stay put once you have them spaced as you like:

….and VOILA! find a cute place in the nursery to hang your new garland! (i just hung this Ikea LACK shelf in the new nursery over the weekend…best shelves ever!)

upholstered footstool and pillow for the nursery

last night while watching “the bachelor” (yes, i admit i watched this nonsense!!) i decided to start on a few projects for the nursery. i reupholstered an old footstool with fabric that matches the nursery bedding. i had a pretty large scrap left over so i made a little polka dot pillow too:

the fabric is dark brown with white polka dots:
