31 Days of Color with Ace Hardware

“Ace Hardware has provided free paint samples. I was also compensated for my time and this blog post. All opinions and positions expressed here are my own and do not necessarily reflect those of Ace Hardware.”

For the month of March, I’ve teamed up with Ace Paint Studio at Ace Hardware for their #31DaysofColor campaign. Since I’m not one to shy away from BOLD color, I’ve chosen a color that really pops: Bold and Beautiful from the Clark+Kensington paint collection.

So, what could I paint to show off this fun shade? I went over to the thrift store and decided on a collection of wooden & plastic frames. None of them really went together, but a few coats of paint would make for a colorful collection on the wall!

After returning home with my thrifted frames, I set up an area on my patio for painting. The frames were super dirty, so I washed them off with a soft cloth after removing the glass. I cleaned the nooks & crannies with some Q-tips.

I used a small paint brush and applied a few coats of Bold and Beautiful. Since it was nearly 90 degrees out they dried in about 30 minutes!

…and the fun part! Display the frames like you would a cluster of artwork. I decided to stage a little nursery corner with red, black, & white accents.

My experience with Ace Hardware & Clark+Kensington paint was fantastic… & as they say, “Going to The Paint Studio at Ace is like going to your neighbor.”

Check out the Ace Paint Studio 31 Days of Color at noon EST every day of their 31 Days of Color to uncover new colors, inspiration and expert tips. Be one of the first 1,000 to get a free sample of the color of the day! You can also enter 31 Days of Color Sweepstakes daily for a chance to win a $10,000 paint makeover and daily $50 Ace gift cards. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. #31DaysOfColor

Feather Drum SS ’15

The gorgeous Feather Drum SS ’15 collection is now available at

About the collection…

“When we were kids, like so many other families, we would pack up for the entire Summer holidays and head to our own piece of coastal paradise where we were free to run, play, create. Days merged into weeks as we explored every single tree, every bay, and potential hideouts from pirates, wild animals and mystical beasts.

It’s this freedom of the heart and mind, the spirit of adventure and imagination that inspires the Lost Oasis collection.

Lightweight pure cottons, soft jersey and beautiful custom prints make up a range which is truly for kids who walk to the beat of their own drum.”

Boy’s Nursery/Guestroom

Hi, Irene from designstiles here.

Wanted to share a new nursery I’m working on. This was one a bit of a challenge since it’s fairly small and needs space for a guest bed. I always like a challenge and the idea of doing something different.

My client found this daybed that adapts to a two person bed. I’m actually liking this in lieu of a rocker or glider. And she can still nurse on this, albeit laying down. When I nursed, I felt more rested when I learned about the laying position. Amen.

Now we’re not going with a theme per se, mostly just filling it with modern, personal and some antique finds to create a room that feels unique and sophisticated and the daybed was sort of the jumping off point. We’re still playing around with items but here’s a first take on a concept board to see how everything plays out together.

White clean modern crib // existing paint color // black and white zebra sheets for cute drama // mom-to-be said she’s into foxes in glasses recently and I think this adds a quirky and humorous aspect // Love this two-toned walnut and white dresser/changing table. Clean lines, adds depth and definitely a piece baby can grow with. For additional lighting, was thinking a plug-in wall sconce with an accordion extension would give the room some visual interest // tower bookshelves to flank the daybed allow for storage and room to display some accessories. They’re not too wide so I imagine they would serve more of a book purpose, like this book // To give the room some global flair and represent the mother’s culture, a Persian rug to really ground the space and offset the modern pieces. I feel every room needs a little modern and vintage to feel balanced.

Happy Wednesday!
