Rexy’s 4th

I’ve been meaning to share a little about Rex’s 4th birthday. Instead of a birthday party we decided on a weekend in San Diego for the birthday boy. On his actual birthday I still wanted to create a festive backdrop for him to open his presents.

The morning of his actual birthday I asked him to pick 2 colors for his cake. Then, I rounded up pretty much anything I could find in my craft cabinets in GREEN & YELLOW! The big glittery #4 was from a Dollar Store 2014 Graduation banner I bought a few weeks ago. (I knew the numbers would come in handy) The Pineapple banner was from a Spongebob Decor kit (Dollar Store as well!) I taped down some polka dot wrapping paper & wrapped all 48 of his presents (see action figures below) in recycled tissue paper. I keep tissue paper any time it comes in a package. You can ALWAYS reuse tissue paper!

I think my little guy felt really special on his day!

Birth Story

By:  Vanessa Pinto
Founder, East End Taste

I began my journey toward parenthood as an individual who had neither held a newborn baby, babysat nor ever interacted with one for long periods of time. I didn’t know how to swaddle a baby, that you had to have your baby nurse from both breasts in one feeding session and was not familiar with the art of burping a baby. After carefully planning the potential pregnancy with my husband, I reluctantly became pregnant very quickly and knew I was pregnant a mere three weeks after conception. I felt the tenderness in my uterus and I had a serious, hearty appetite for over a week. After a blood test two days after my missed period, my husband and I were overjoyed at the discovery of my pregnancy.

Before I knew it, I began to experience morning sickness. Before I had begun feeling sick, I automatically had assumed that you just feel sick in the morning and go about the rest of your day with no symptoms. Was I ever wrong. My morning sickness rapidly became severe. It was now Memorial Day Weekend and I could not bear to get out of bed to kick off the summer season. I was sick all day and through the night. I couldn’t keep down anything: ice cubs, popsicles, water, chicken stock, nothing at all. Practically every food group became an aversion expect fruit, though I could not keep it down. I was soon diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum after I became severely dehydrated and had been feeling weak and dizzy. The severe morning sickness lasted well into the first month of my second trimester and the nausea finally subsided in mid September, halfway through my second trimester.

Nursery Mood Board

I’ve always loved primary colors in the nursery. They are perfect to incorporate into gender neutral nurseries or boy/girl shared rooms. (I used a lot of red, blue and yellow in Harper in Rex’s shared bedroom as well!) Brown, light wood, or my favorite color white furniture all looks nice with primary colors. I do love this new Lolly crib by Babyletto!

1. babyletto Lolly 3-in-1 Convertible Crib
2. Dream Big Print
3. IKEA PS 2014
4. Reindeer Head by Anne-Claire Petit
5. Polka Dot Club Bear Rattle Balls
6. Sway Shelf Set Of 2 Natural
8. Nantucket Lidded Baskets – Navy (Set Of 3)

First Fiesta

Hi. Irene from designstiles today.

I’m helping a client with her daughter’s first birthday party and wanted to share some of the inspiration images we’re using.

The theme of the party, or fiesta I should say, is just that, a fiesta. We’re calling it Sophie’s First Fiesta.

Rather than going with all of the bright, bold colors of a traditional fiesta, we’re toning things down just a little bit to make it more fitting for a little girl.

Pretty pinks, raspberries, mints and a splash of merigold.

I even found this adorable embroidered top and bloomers set for the birthday girl to wear.

It’s going to be so cute and I can’t wait.

Happy Wednesday!
