Paper Mâché Sculptures

papermacheanimals3

There is something so quirky and endearing about these Paper Mâché Sculptures by Abigail Brown. Each piece is hand crafted and no two pieces will ever be exactly the same! My favorite is the Grey Rabbit Head.

Which is your fave?

Eclectica Kiddo

I’m totally in love with this In the Deep art piece sold by Eclectica Kiddo.

It’s such a great example of fun art for kids with some grown up flair. It’s a piece that can easily transition from nursery to toddler room to teenage room. And if it’s been kept for that long, might as well take it to the dorm too .

I was inspired by this piece to create a room vignette for a child with mature taste.

And to find out more about eclectica kiddo, I’m over on Spearmint Baby today sharing more of their fun, contemporary art.

Head over here.

Birth Story

I haven’t posted a birth story for a really long time! I LOVED reading other women’s birthing experiences while I was pregnant and will be sharing a lot more again in the future. This is the story of Sissy’s baby boy. It was her 2nd time giving birth! So, read on…

I feel like I need to back up a few weeks before I jump right into the throws of my birthing story this time around. Evylena came as a surprise at 38 weeks and 2 days. I was surprised and so thankful that she came out those two weeks early and I was hoping (not so secretly) that Iain would follow suit if not coming out a bit earlier! By week 38 there is nothing fun about being pregnant… everything hurts, you can’t bend down, you can barely see your toes if at all, you can’t sleep, eating is a must, but a chore and when you are chasing a 2.5 yr old toddler all day as well you are just completely EXHAUSTED!!! Needless to say you are ready for that baby to be on the outside and not on the inside any more!! (Ok maybe it was just me, but I was ready and waiting at 37 weeks!)

We found out around 35 weeks of pregnancy that our building where we live was going to be tented for termites and we would have to ‘move’ out for at least 3 days. Now when I say move out you didn’t have to move everything out of your house, but you did have to practically bag up your kitchen of anything ingestable including medicines etc… or take it with you. Also when you are 35 weeks pregnant and about to bring a vulnerable infant home you kind of freak out about a bunch of chemicals fumigating your house under a tent and you go into mama bear mode and pack up all the clothes and linens and toys that might go into young mouths…on top of already being exhausted…I just knew that the stress of it all was going to put me in labor and that I would be at the hospital with no home to come home too!! It all became a bit overwhelming an life consuming for 3 weeks, leading up to and then after it was over. It just so happened the day we had to be out of our house for the tenting my mother in law was flying in for the duration of the birth and aftermath!! I am so thankful that the two coincided (although I’m not sure she was so excited to be coming to help with the aftermath of tenting!!). She was a huge help in moving all of our things back to our house and cleaned it from top to bottom!! This put a 37 week preggo much more at ease about the whole nightmare scenario. We also were able to find a cute little abode to rent for the days (and a few extra) that we were away from home and it was perfect! If you ever need to rent a house in San Diego I highly recommend Tricia’s house in Felton Heights!!! While we were staying at the house I had one day of about 4 hours that I thought I was going into labor….I had A LOT more braxton hicks contractions in those 4 hours than I had previously had in a weeks time. I just knew the time had come, but after a nice relaxing shower the contractions dissipated and things went back to normal…false alarm!
