Dyeing Easter Eggs

Are your children on Spring Break this week? Harper is, so I am trying to do lots of activities to keep her busy. Yesterday we started preparing for Easter with some Easter egg dyeing. It was our first year to do this and I have to admit– it is NOT a great activity to do with a 28 month old! It was pretty chaotic and we made a huge mess! here are a some pics of our Eggs:

BEFORE:

i know there are lots of ways to dye eggs, but I like to keep them simple and colorful. I use food coloring, hard boiled eggs, and distilled vinegar. I used my snow cone holders to hold the eggs before dyeing so they would not roll onto the ground. This was really helpful and kept Harper from handling/breaking them!

PROCESS:

while waiting for our eggs to absorb color, we decided to try out Lauren’s cute Chickie Egg idea for lunch:

they are so cute, and Harper got a kick out of her lunch eggs– until the eyes fell off, and then she got quite upset and screamed, “OJOS!” for the next 10 minutes!

AFTER

a few pics of our colorful Easter Eggs! Have you dyed eggs yet for Easter? If so, how did you decorate yours?

  2. So pretty! That story about Harper and the eggs made me laugh out loud. Sorry to have scarred your child haha! Ojos ;)

  3. I'm also kind of purist with dying eggs, I love the simplicity of brightly colored eggs. That being said, we grew up coloring on our eggs with colored pencils and crayons and then dying them. My stepmother is a graphic artist, so every year we would each have a gorgeously drawn egg with our names on it and some kind of Easter illustration. We dyed ours last night and did a mix of eggs that are solid colors and ones with the colored pencil drawings…so fun!
