Birth Story

On December 17th 2009 I was headed to my 36 week appointment which was going to be my last.
I was scheduled to be induced at 37 weeks. Because of my high blood pressure my whole pregnancy and developing Preeclampsia they just wanted to get the baby out.
That day I remember I was feeling like crap because of my Preeclampsia. I had the worst head ache ever. Nothing new there… but this time I was seeing little stars and felt just awful.
When I got there I did the usual pee in the cup, get your weight then they took my blood pressure. It was sooo high which is nothing because it always is but this time it was really really high. My Dr. seemed very concerned from then on, she kept leaving the room then coming back then asking her other partners for advice. There were doctors coming in and out, looking at me, looking at my chart, whispering to each other. Finally she asked me how I was feeling. I told her that I had the worst headache and that I was seeing little stars. She told me that it had to do with my Preeclampsia but this was really bad and that if I went home I could have a stroke or a seizure. So she decided to just call it a day and induce me that day instead of the following Tuesday.
They wouldn’t even let me go home and get my things together or shower!!! I had to just head down stairs and get induced right after I left her office. I was so pissed, but I knew it was for the best.
They explained to me that I would be on Magnesium Sulfate, which is a drug that helps you not seize or have a stroke in labor. It would make me really loopy and feel rather flush like I was sick with the flu. Almost like Morphine times 10. I would be taking this the whole time I was in labor and 24 hours afer delivery. I also would be given cervidil to soften the cervix and pitocin to get my labor going. I would only start the Magnesum Sulfate that night along with the cervidil and then the following morning they would break my water then I would be given the Pitocin.
I headed down stairs after calling James to get his butt to the hospital. Then I called the rest of my family to let them know. Everyone was really worried which made me more worried.
I was put in a room really fast, there were even girls in hard core labor that had to wait their turns and I got a room before them. haha oops.
They came in and started hooking me up to everything, gave me my i.v, catheter, etc. ya know the good stuff. Everything was happening soo fast! The nurse said that I could have one last meal before they gave me the Magnesum Sulfate, so guess what I chose? Jimmy Johns!!
After I ate she started the Magnesium Sulfate. (I hate that stuff with a passion.) This is where the fun began. I started feeling awful like the world was spinning and really loopy and not able to concentrate. They also gave me the cervidil. I had to stick it in my cheek. That whole night I was throwing up badly. I dont really know if it had to do with my nerves or the medicine, but it was no fun for me. They gave me ambien to try and sleep, Ya right are you kidding me I thought? I didn’t sleep at all.
The following morning (Friday December 18th) my Dr. came in and broke my water. (around 7 a.m.) I do not really remember it at all. I remember that I felt like I was constantly peeing my pants. James was still knocked out on the sofa next to my bed so he didn’t see that lovely part!! I was still so sick from throwing up and I was soo messed up on that crappy medicine so everything was a blur. Plus I was really really tired.
Then they started the pitocin. This was the awful awful part…..
Pitocin makes contractions harder and fast. That they did! They came sooo fast. Around 10 am I was starting to really feel the contractions and debating when I wanted to get my epidural. I had to make a decision fast because the guy was going to be busy with c-sections and he might not be able to get to me when I really wanted it. The nurse checked me and I was only at a 3. I tried to last a little longer then I decided to get that most amazing drug ever!!! It didn’t even hurt really (my contractions hurt so much more) the guy was awesome and told me everything he was doing and how everything was going to feel. I had to make him stop a couple of times to work through my contractions but I was so much happier when I got it.
1 hour later I started to feel major pressure down in my area and I could feel my contractions again. They hurt sooo bad. I could feel them but had to keep my eyes closed because the room was spinning so bad from the Mag stuff. ick. My nurse checked me and I was at an 8. I went from a 3 to an 8 in one hour? All she kept saying was, “WOW!” This is not common for most first time moms. They told me that I could be in labor for a verrrry loooonggg timmeee so I was prepared for a much longer process but I was pretty proud of myself for progressing so much.
They had the anthesiologist (new best friend) come back in and fix the epidural. I could still feel a lot of the contractions but didn’t care at that point. I just wanted my little man out of me!! About 25 min later my Dr. came in and checked me (or someone did)… can’t remember really! I was at a 10 & they all kept saying that they couldn’t believe how fast I was going and that my contractions were so close together and so strong!
I pushed through 5 contractions & ripped a little on the side. I don’t really remember my Grandma or my sister in the room or pushing all that much. I also didn’t know the cord was wrapped around his neck twice when he came out. It goes so fast when it comes down to the last minute.
Kingston LaMar was born on Friday, December 18th 2009 at 36 weeks. He weighed a whopping 5lbs 13 oz and was 18.5 inches long.

I did not cry when he came out. For some reason I thought I would be bawling. I was soo in shock seeing this little thing come right out of me. It was soo sureal. I did cry when they did the skin to skin. Most amazing moment ever. Oh, and trust me I’ve made up for the not crying when he was born. Everytime I look at him I cry! He is so beautiful!!
