Birth Story

My birth story for Wyatt is seriously the most drama free story ever. Everyone has some crazy thing that happened to them, but for us, it was seriously a cake walk.
October 7th I woke up with a little bit of blood after peeing that morning (SORRY TMI). Instantly I started having cramps. I told my husband that I thought I was going to go into labor that day. He didn’t believe me and kinda laughed it off. He went into work like normal. I was so sure that I was going into labor that I went upstairs and shaved my legs (good advice from my friend Jenny). By the time he was home for lunch at 2:30pm, my cramps were so severe and painful that I told him he can’t go back to work. I started to time them and they lasted about 40 seconds to 1 minute and were 4-5 minutes apart. When we got to the hospital they checked to see if I was dilated and I was! Only 3 cm and 50% effaced, so they had me walk around the hospital for an hour. That was by far the most painful thing I had ever experienced! The contractions were so intense and walking around the outside of the hospital with them was sorta embarrassing because of the most ridiculous faces I was making. Every time I had a contraction I of course would just be in total torture. I couldn’t talk or breathe sometimes (and yet Josh kept pushing me to walk more, I could of killed him). By the time the hour was up, we made our way back to labor and delivery and I was checked again. I had made it to 4cm and 80% effaced. I was relieved at that point because it meant that I was definitely going to have the baby and I was super excited. I went ahead and got an epidural at 5cm and 90% effaced. I was hurting so badly that I was puking! Throwing up and having contractions at the same time sucks a lot. So after having the epidural I chilled out and watched some TV and called people on the phone and stuff. Josh went to change out of his uniform and get something to eat. Literally 2 minutes after he came back from eating, they checked me again (which was probably like 45 minutes later) and I had dilated to 10cm and 100% effaced and it was time to push! I couldn’t believe it! I started pushing around 7:30pm and had Wyatt at 9:11pm. It was such a wonderful and positive experience. My doctor was awesome and the nurses were so nice and sweet. Having the epidural allowed me to be totally comfortable while pushing Wyatt out. In fact, I was talking and joking the entire time.
Wyatt was born 7lbs and 9oz and 19 3/4 inches long. He’s the most perfect and precious baby ever. My husband and I are in total love with him. I am so thankful that I had him at the end of my 36th week. I didn’t want to wait anymore and everything has been so perfect that I can’t see it happening any other way.
thanks so much spearmint baby!

Love your birth story! I have been skeptical to read a lot because I just hear so many that are so hard and tragic, but yours was super encouraging for me! I'm 34 1/2 weeks right now and looking forward to meeting our daughter.

Agreed! It is good to hear such a positive story. It seems like it was a relatively short labor too for a first baby. Congratulations.
