Homemade Playdough

the hot weather is keeping us indoors this weekend, so i decided to try making play dough for harper. there are so many variations of this recipe, but i do recommend this one. i hope to try a few others in the future including one that uses cornstarch. have you made homemade playdough?

INGREDIENTS
1 cup flour
1/4 cup salt
1 tbsp powdered alum (find this in the spice section of grocery store)
3 tbsp vegetable oil
1 cup H20

MIX TOGETHER
flour, salt, and powdered alum

bring vegetable oil and water to a boil. pour the hot water mixture over the dry mix. let cool enough so that you can knead on floured board. add food color if you want.

i separated the play dough into 3 medium sized balls:

then added enough food coloring until i got the desired color. continue kneading, rolling, stretching until your color gets really rich.

and get busy creating with your kids! (i think i may have had more fun with this than my toddler!)
